"The Dark Side of the Moon(cover)" by The Flaming Lips

The Flaming Lips - The Dark Side of the Moon Pictures, Images and Photos

I'm starting off my saying, I am not judging this album by anything The Flaming Lips has done in the past. I'm judging this album by itself.

(Track 1) Speak to Me/Breathe(feat. Henry Rollins):
Starts off with an interesting monologue and ends with an interesting sounding progressive feel to the guitars. The tempo of the song is way different that the original but I almost like the fast paced version better. The vocoder makes the vocals sound almost like a robotronic version of David Gilmour. I guess T-Pain needs to do this song next.

(Track 2) On The Run(feat. Henry Rollins):
Wow. This track is extremely stupid and pointless. The really retarded laughing is getting annoying as hell and the little guitar exerts are like 2 seconds long. I can't get over how I just wasted 3:55 seconds listening to some bullshit fake laughing. I guess I never really cared for the original anyways.

(Track 3) Time/Breathe:
The vocals in this track are brilliant. Its extremely slow getting started but by the time it picks up your going to enjoy it. Wayne Coyne's voice resembles Gilmour's voice a lot. But I don't feel the passion in this song, like the passion in the original.

(Track 4) The Great Gig in Sky(feat. Peaches and Henry Rollins):
Yeah just one thing...  WHAT THE HELL!
They completely ruined the backup vocals in the original by putting in atrocious autotuned screaming. Seriously way to ruin a completely great song. I just wonder if when The Flaming Lips listened back at this did they actually think that this was good? .... God.

(Track 5) Money(feat. Henry Rollins):
Well they got rid of the cash ringing noises and put in an even more annoying sound. I didn't really think it was possible. This song just reminds me as if R2-D2 and Tom Morello dropped some acid, did song together and then raped a Hyena.

(Track 6) Us and Them(feat. Henry Rollins):
The only decent cover on this CD so far. Maybe because its the only thing that sounds close to Pink Floyd and its not really supposed to. The background effects in this song aren't nearly as irritating as the other tracks and the organ in the back is actually easy on my tortured on my ears. Henry Rollins has to throw is 2 cents in there and say something really random which is funny. Because Henry Rollins is like the Chuck Norris of music.

(Track 7) Any Colour You Like:
2 consistent good tracks in a row! :O! They're using real drums instead of a little drum machine from Duran Duran's set?! :O! The guitars are almost Gilmour-esque with a cry baby effect. I like it. The little background vocals are harmonic with the music. So it actually fits with the music.

(Track 8) Brain Damage(feat. Henry Rollins):
Its listenable. That's about all I can really say. Except for the guitars in the back sound like the intro to Ghostbusters which bothered me. Around 3:19 they added some extra drum effects and a speaker screech like when you get too close to a speaker with a microphone. And then the end of the song I screamed and almost shit my pants when I heard someone take a machete to a chalkboard. Not cool man. Not cool.

(Track 9) Eclipse(feat. Henry Rollins)
Well once again they managed to destroy the background vocals of the original and add more vocal autotune that make Attack Attack! looks like Bob Dylan. Well this was NOT listenable.

The Bottom Line: Well to be honest, they managed to murder one of the greatest albums of all time. I have no idea whose idea it was to remake something that quite frankly didn't need to be redone. It's almost like they were trying too hard to be weirder than Pink Floyd. Well Flaming Lips and Henry Rollins you failed, because you guys didn't seem weird at all. I'm pretty sure I could've made that entire CD on my GameBoy Color.
